Industrial equipment maker Emerson Electric Co (NYSE:EMR) is selling two divisions for US$5.2bn to focus on more profitable businesses.
Emerson is offloading its network power arm to investment firm Platinum Equity for US$4bn, although it will keep a minority stake in the unit.
The group is also disposing of its motor and electric power division to Japan's Nidec Corp for US$1.2bn.
Emerson plans to focus on its remaining industrial automation, process management and heating and air conditioning businesses, which together make up more than half the company's total revenue.
It also blamed slowing demand due to lower global growth for a cut in its full-year adjusted earnings per share forecast to US$2.90-US$3.00 per share from US$3.05-US$3.25.
Net earnings were US$479mln, or US$0.74 per share, in the third quarter to June 30, versus US$564 million, or US$0.84 per share, a year ago.
