E-sports show specialist Gfinity (LON:GFIN) is to host live events in five cities for a new version of dystopian sci-fi shooting game Gears of War.
Microsoft subsidiary Xbox and The Coalition, the game’s developer, will launch Gears of War 4 in October with live professional tournaments in London, Paris, Mexico City, Columbus and Las Vegas. Prize money of US$1mln will be on offer.
Gfinity and Major League Gaming will be the two hosts of the events.
Gaming events can attract huge audiences with vast numbers watching players online as well as those turning up at the venue.
Gfinity’s 2015 Championship drew 58.5mln online views for the 23 weekly tournaments.
