On a quiet day for company news, JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD.) looked set to provide the only corporate action with its annual general meeting.
If the company issues a trading statement alongside the meeting, investors are likely to seek a continuation of the positive trends it reported at its final results in April.
At that time, the retailer reported a record result with headline profit before tax and exceptional items of £157.1mln, up from £100mln a year ago.
It noted a very pleasing performance in its core sports fashion business with like-for-like shop sales growth in excess of 10% for the second year in a row.
It also said its rollout of stores in mainland Europe continued with a net increase of 38 shops for the JD fascia.
Chairman Peter Cowgill said at the time: “We are encouraged by the continued positive trading across our core fascias in the year to date and the board continues to believe the group is very well positioned for profitable growth."
