FTSE 100 Index falls on bad news from Beijing

The FTSE 100 Index fell 46.39 points to 6255 in early trading

The London market opened on the back foot after Chinese inflation came in lower than expected.

The FTSE 100 Index fell 46.39 points to 6255 as Beijing said prices unexpectedly dropped to a three-month low of 2%.

Biggest riser was J Sainsbury plc (LON:SBRY) with a 0.76% gain to 252.5p as investors continued to warm to the stock after yesterday's better-than-expected first quarter figures.

But Vodafone Group plc (LON:VOD) backtracked 4.2% to 221.3p following news of a tie-up with Sky PLC (LON:SKY) in New Zealand.
