Gfinity Plc (LON:GFIN), the eSports business, has signed a partnership with Futhead.com, a community of online players of the FIFA 16 computer game.
Gfinity has been tasked by Futhead with operating a series of FIFA 16 Ultimate Team competitions on its eSports tournament platform.
FIFA Ultimate Team, otherwise known as FUT, is a game mode in the FIFA 16 video game where users can build their own personal teams from real world players across all licensed leagues.
Futhead.com claims to be the world's leading FUT community web site and online database.
Gfinity said the online tournaments will commence on 10 June 2016, which, not coincidentally, is when the Euro 2016 Football Championship kicks off.
Gfinity will be hosting six online competitions per week to be played on FIFA 16 for Xbox One in Europe and North America. It will give aspiring video gamers the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and compete against other players from Europe and North America, with a shot at some of the US$25,000 prize money available.
The global FIFA 16 FUT eSports schedule provides Gfinity with the opportunity to attract the entire Futhead.com community, which boasts over six million monthly unique active users, onto its platform.
“As we found with the 'Play Like a Legend' Championship presented by Xbox, there is a huge appetite for competitive FIFA, both in Europe and the Americas,” said Sam Van Tilburgh, head of marketing at Gfinity.
“Numerous players who started out on Gfinity have gone on and signed with major teams such as Epsilon, Hashtag United FC and even West Ham United FC. This partnership gives the scene the opportunity that it has been craving and we expect to see some great competitions and the emergence of some new champions," he said.
