Computer and tech titan IBM (NYSE:IBM) has agreed a US$300 million services contract with Dubai’s Emirates Airline.
Emirates Airline is the world’s fourth-largest carrier of international passengers and has a fleet of more than 250 planes.
Under a ten year deal, IBM will provide information services, so the group can improve efficiency on its passenger support systems and functions.
IBM said: "The agreement provides fully managed services for the IBM mainframe and storage that will help Emirates encrypt data in near real-time.
"Additionally, the platform allows the airline to build new apps that will support the API Economy - a commercial exchange of business functions, capabilities, or competencies as services packaged in APIs.
It added that by moving its IT Infrastructure delivery into a managed services model, the airline will improve business application performance, resilience, scalability, and make significant operational savings.
Emirates reported a profit of US$1.93bn for the year to end March - 56% higher than last year.
