Cranswick cooks up a tasty profit

The UK-based food producer posted a record set of revenues in 2015

Cranswick plc (LON:CWK) saw another year of record sales as all of its products performed well except cooked meats.

Total revenues rose to £1.07bln from £1.03bln a year earlier, while the company, which makes Taste the Difference sausages for Sainsbury’s and the Tesco finest range, boosted profits by 10% to £58.7mln.

“The past year has been one of strong commercial growth and continued strategic development for Cranswick,” said chairman Martin Davey.

“This has enabled sales, which exceeded £1bln for the first time a year ago, to progress further.”

All of its sale categories – including bacon, sausage, chicken and pastry – saw a year-on-year increase in sales, apart from cooked meats which was down 4%.

Cranswick supplies cooked and uncooked meats, as well as pastry and sandwiches, to retailers up and down the country.

As a result of the strong performance, the company said it is proposing to increase the final dividend by 10.7% to 25.9 pence per share (pps).

Shares were down 3p to 2,325p.
