Futura looks to future as recruitment phase closes for pivotal trial

Already 110 have completed the four-month course of treatment with the other 82 expected to be through the process by the summer.

Futura Medical PLC (LON:FUM) said it will receive the results of a pivotal study from a new gel for erectile dysfunction in the third quarter of this year.

The update came as the company said it finished recruiting for the trial of MED2002.

In all 360 patients from the UK and Poland agreed to take part although only 192 are needed for the completion of the investigation.

Already 110 have completed the four-month course of treatment with the other 82 expected to be through the process by the summer.

No serious side-effects have been recorded in the study, which sees one group receive a placebo with no medical benefits and the other the gel.

As it’s a double-blind test, the researchers won’t know until the trial is finished which group is which.

As well as assessing MED2002's efficacy, experts will also look at speed of onset, which Futura “believes is an important claim for the product”.

One of the downsides of traditional erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viargra, is the time they take to work.

The company’s chief executive, James Barder, said “commercialisation plans are already being prepared in anticipation of a successful study outcome” to this pivotal study.
