Shares in explorer SolGold plc (LON:SOLG) added 2.16% to 3.55p on Friday morning as results from hole 16 in Ecuador continued to impress.
Final results have now been received from the hole at the Alpala deposit at the Cascabel site, which returned another world-class intersection of 1,145.6 metres (m) at 0.63% copper and 0.78 g/t gold from 516m.
This included 856 metres at 0.8% copper and 1.04 g/t gold from 448 metres.
This broad zone of porphyry style copper and gold mineralisation, included two high grade zones, the firm noted.
The final numbers from Hole 16 extend the known extent of the Alpala deposit by a further 120 metres to the southeast, and increases the known strike range of copper and gold mineralisation along the greater Alpala trend.
So far, the Alpala central deposit, which outcrops in Alpala Creek, is open in virtually all directions, and is defined at greater than 0.7% copper over a strike length of 625m, a lateral width of 300m, and a vertical extent of 1,800.
Porphyry systems, deep underground, have housed some of the world’s largest ever copper discoveries.
Cascabel lies on the Andean copper belt, the same geological trend as some of the largest copper and gold finds.
