Most followed - Noricum Gold , Metro Bank, N Brown and other messages

A summary of today's most followed firms and news items....

A message in a bottle has been found by a German woman 108 years after it was given up to the oceans, but of course most of today's news offerings were far more immediate, particularly in today's digital age.

Certainly not 'sending out an SOS' and indeed racing to the top of London's share riser board was Canadian Overseas Petroleum Limited (LON:COPL, CVE:XOP), whose shares added 30%.

It confirmed it had signed definitive agreements with UK investors for a £800,000 fund raise.

Another junior gaining traction was gold mine developer Noricum Gold (LON:NMG), whose shares added 8.33% and whose final results was one of the most read London statements.

The group has its sights set firmly on first production from the Bolnisi copper and gold project in Georgia in the third quarter of 2016.

Social media and online news organisations were as ever awash with more on the EU referendum debate in June. Today's nugget was that eight former US treasury secretaries have said that it would be risky for the UK to leave the EU.

There's still a lot of uncertainty around and those looking for a job wont have been cheered by news UK unemployment had risen 21,000 to 1.7mln in the three months to end February. It's the first rise since the middle of last year.

Elsewhere, internet clothing retailer N Brown (LON:BWNG)was gaining reader traction but shares fell over 14% despite it posting solid final results

Sales were lower than the previous year as it endured a slowdown since year end and warned of currency headwinds.

Also in the news today was challenger bank Metro, which issued the first update since its IPO last month and said it was moving towards profit after losses fell to £7.9mln in the last quarter. The float valued the bank at £1.6bn.

Finally, back to smaller fry and Goldplat PLC (LON:GDP) shares added 5% as it unveiled a good latest quarter, which saw continued profitability at its recovery operations and decreased losses at the Kilimapesa gold mine in Kenya.

In all, 7,252 ounces were produced in the three months to March 31 along with steady progress on capital projects, the company told investors.
