FTSE100 finished down on Thursday but small cap shares did better.
FTSE100 closed down 24.74 to 6,136, while the FTSEAIM 100 added 0.44% to stand at 3,387 and the wider FTSE AIM All-share gained a tad - 0.22%- to stand at 717.020.
The biggest laggard on the premier UK index was Glencore (LON:GLEN), which fell 5.71% to stand at 131.95p, despire firmer commodities and an almost 6% jump in Brent crude. Gold rose 1.69% to US$1,242 an ounce.
Speaking of gold, in small caps Connemara Mining PLC (LON:CON) was the runaway winner - adding 116% on the day to stand at 2.88p a share.
It was by far the biggest gainer in London and came of the back of news from drilling in Northern Ireland, which confirmed "without a doubt" a gold bearing vein system.
It comes from the results from a short-hole drilling programme on the group's gold licences in Inishowen, County Donegal.
Grafenia (LON:GRA) added over 15% to 11.25p as it beat expectations despite a prior profit warning.
The company, formerly known as printing.com said its trade service for print resellers, Marqetspace, had exceeded expectations.
Bezant Resources (LON:BZT) gained 14.29% to stand at 2p each, while in oil Sacoil (LON:SAC) went up 17.39% to stand at 1.35p.
On the flip side, 88Energy (LON:88E) plunged 30.77% to 2.25p after the firm today issued a statement to clarify a number of points following yesterday’s announcement regarding the third party assessment by DeGolyer & MacNaughton (D&M).
