Akers Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:AKER, LON:AKR) has been granted a US patent for the technology at the heart of a test that detects an allergy to the blood thinning drug Heparin.
The protection covers the company’s unique methods it uses for detecting platelet factor 4 antibodies.
Shanta Gold Limited (LON:SHG) reached a major milestone - receiving a US$9.1mln financing with a Tanzania bank to build a 7.5Mw power station at its flagship New Luika gold mine.

Casper Strydom purchased 750,000 shares in Pan African Resources Plc (LON:PAF) for just over 2mln South African Rand (£93,500).
Strydom is the managing director of Barberton Mines, a major subsidiary of the group.
Telit Communications PLC's (LON:TCM) company chairman purchased 17,500 shares at a price of around 220p per share. Testa now owns just under 1% of the total voting rights.
Meanwhile, Genel Energy Plc (LON:GENL) has confirmed that it is buying back US$55.4mln of its US$730mln bonds at a big discount to face value.
The Kurdistan based oil producer has told investors that it is paying 63% of the bonds' par value to buy back the portion of the debt.
African airline Fastjet PLC (LON:FJET) was today mulling its response to another critical letter from major shareholder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannu.
EasyGroup, Haji-Ioannu’s investment vehicle, published the letter yesterday outlining concerns over the relationship between the two companies and how the low cost airline was operating.
Laboratory and telecom network technology group BATM Advanced Communications Ltd (LON:BVC) said a maiden profit in its biomedical arm had driven it back into the black.
BATM said the biomedical division, which makes up 54% of BATM's sales, had become profitable for the first time in the group's history.
