US shares closed out Friday higher as the oil price gained ground and traders mulled a mixed jobs report.
Oil stocks were also up with Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) continuing a good run, up 19%.
The world's largest economy added 242,000 new jobs last month, brushing off the 151,000 hiccough in January.
It throws open again the question of the Fed's stance on interest rate hikes.
On Friday, the Dow Jones closed around 62 points higher at 17,006, the Nasdaq gained 9.6 at 4,717 and theS&P500 added6.59 at 1,999.
The price of WTI crude- the US benchmark, gained 4.66'% at the time of writing to stand at US$36.18 a barrel.

US stocks started lower on Wall Street despite futures trading haeading higher as traders digested the job creation number.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index started down 9.48, while the S&P500 was down 1.73 at 1,991 and the Nasdaq shed 11.40 to 4,696.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate held steady at 4.9%.
“Fed Chair Janet Yellen will feel vindicated that today’s non-farm payroll data confirmed the US economy is strong and continues to add jobs at pace.
"Unemployment figures are holding steady, and there are signals that wages are starting to rise at last,” noted Dennis de Jong, managing director of UFX.com.
Facebook shares on Nasdaq eased 0.8% to US$108.74 and the company was one of the most talked about around as it emerged the social media giant is set to pay millions pound in UK corporation tax.
Parsley Energy (NYSE:PE) added over 8% as BMO Capital Markets increased the target to $23.00 and rates shares 'outperform'.
