Most followed - Crowdfunding, Murray, Amazon and Lord King

A flurry of items were picquing web interest, including topics ranging from crowdfunding and a new deal for e-commerce giant Amazon.

A flurry of items were picquing web interest, away from the glitzy Oscars, including topics ranging from crowdfunding and a new deal for e-commerce giant Amazon.

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is back in the news again with his apparent love of crowdfunding.

The tennis star, who recently became a dad, is now backing five British entrepreneurs through the Seedrs platform.

He is putting his money where his mouth is concerning ice cream maker Oppo, film streaming firm We Are Colony, peer-to-peer mortgage lender Landbay, digital magazine platform Readbug and travel subscription service CommuterClub.

Last summer, he invested undisclosed sums into three British companies - Tossed, a ‘healthier eating’ food retail chain, ASOS (LON:ASC) backed Trillenium which has developed 3D virtual shopping software.

The third was The Fuel Ventures Fund, founded by couponing entrepreneur Mark Pearson.

Murray was quoted as saying: "Giving recognition and support to British entrepreneurs is important to me."

Whether the Murray story was covered in the "New Day" -Britain's first new national newspaper for 30 years, I don't know, but what is certain the paper hit shelves today.

Its performance will be keenly watched to see if there really is an appetite for hardcopy news as increasingly readers go digital.

It will be first offered for free before heading towards its 50p purchase price.

Another big story was news that online e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) had struck a deal with Morrisons (LON:MRW), meaning customers will be able to order hundreds of the supermarkets goods online.

It could be a big shake-up for Britain's already beleaguered big supermarket sector.

In small caps, 88 Energy (LON:88E) shares surged over 10% on Monday but had earlier been even higher, after its latest update from the Icewine shale well gave further indications that were better than pre-drill expectations.

Analysis indicates that one of Icewine’s shale zones has ‘tier 1 liquids-rich hydrocarbon concentration’ and that the project presents ‘world class resource prize potential’, the company said.

The old BoE g'vnor Mervyn was back today too as Lord King probably pleased the doom-mongers by sayng another financial crisis was 'certain' and will come 'sooner rather than later'.

Lord King is not one to take on light projects. He is about to publish a book called: "The End Of Alchemy: Money, Banking And The Future Of The Global Economy."
