Independent videos games firm Frontier Developments (LON:FDEV) increased revenues by more than 50% in the six months to November 31.
The expansion of Frontier’s Elite Dangerous franchise resulted in revenue of £10.9mln in the first half, it said. A total of 1.2mln units were sold by the end of November, and by the end of the calendar year the tally had risen to 1.4mln.
It comes as the company has been making the transition to becoming a self-publishing developer.
Frontier said the group’s second self-published game franchise Planet Coaster later this year will provide further revenue catalysts.
The company added that launch of Planet Coaster is expected in the fourth quarter, and the project is currently the focus for about half its development staff.
“All our development teams are now working on self-published projects and with the release of Planet Coaster in calendar Q4 2016 our investment phase will complete and we will be generating revenues from both our major franchises,” said David Braben, Frontier Developments chief executive.
“We remain in a good cash position, and were profitable in the half year."
The company reported a £400,000 profit for its first half, compared to a £1.9mln loss in the same period of last year. Earnings (EBITDA) were reported as £2.1mln, up from £500,000, and earnings per share amounted to 1.2p per share.
It ended November with £8.6mln of cash.
