Biomass coal replacement fuels group Active Energy (LON:AEG) has appointed industry veteran Dan Shaw as director of Business Development at its AEG CoalSwitch division.
AEG CoalSwitch is the recently-announced renewable energy division of Active Energy.
Shaw's role will include negotiating with international power generation utilities and raw material feedstock owners to further develop the commercial opportunities for the company's biomass-derived coal replacement fuel technology, which has generated enormous international interest since it was announced in September 2015, Active Energy said.
Shaw has more than 25 years of high-level international experience across the mining, minerals and chemicals industries. His previous positions have included director of New Ventures and Corporate Development at Harsco Metals & Minerals, a division of Harsco Corporation, where he was responsible for initiating and developing a range of projects globally; and working with a prominent Middle Eastern investment fund to establish new manufacturing operations in the metals, energy and advanced materials industries.
Prior to that he spent several years working as a business analyst and product and process development manager in the steel, metals, chemical and materials industries, and acted as a consultant to firms in the metals, IT services and industrial processing sectors.

“We're confident that Dan has the industry knowledge and experience to ensure that AEG CoalSwitch enters the energy mainstream and is adopted worldwide, realising its potential as the first renewable energy fuel that can be utilised in coal-fired power stations without requiring retrofitting or facilities conversion."
AEG CoalSwitch is one of three business divisions at Active Energy. The other two are: AEG Timberlands, which is focused on forestry asset management, and AEG WoodFibre, which provides industrial wood fibre for medium-density fibreboard (MF) manufacturing.
