News of a massive blizzard approaching the east coast was gaining clicks in webworld as more than 50 million Americans have been warned of a "potentially paralysing storm", which could have huge economic consequences.

A state of emergency has been declared in Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia as the storm expected to hit later today could cut power and bring road and air travel to a halt.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has urged residents in the city to be ready.

It comes as equity markets in Europe regain ground on the back of firmer oil prices.

Meanwhile, the question of finally getting RBS (LON:RBS) and Lloyds (LON:LLOY) out of tax-payers' hands came again, with news that plans had stalled in the light of terrible equity markets.

Shares in the two lenders have slumped to their lowest in more than three years and so any retail offering may be delayed, suggested reports.

After mixed messages in recent UK jobs data, news that online retail giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) will take on 2,500 new permanent staff this year should be welcome.

It currently employs 40,000 people in Europe and last year created 10,000 new jobs.

In juniors today, one of the biggest gainers was SeaEnergy (LON:SEA), whose shares surged almost 90% at one point before easing to 15% ahead after rising 50% last night as it unveiled a new Australian partnership for its subsidiary Return To Scene in the field of forensics.

The deal is with Universal Spatial Solutions (USS) and will see the offering of cutting-edge forensic products and services across Australia and New Zealand.

The R2S system enables investigators to capture crime scenes via a series of 360-degree photographs. Combined seamlessly together, these create virtual walk-throughs of environments, which form the basis of a case profile.

Finally, there's a bit of car-related news that thankfully doesn't have the word emission in it, but could leave readers shaken if not stirred.

Aston Martin is going to auction one of 10 DB10 cars made for last year's James Bond 'Spectre' film for charity.

The luxury vehicle will be put up for sale on February 18 with a minimum starting price of £1mln.

It has a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine and a top speed of 190 mph, but don't think you can nip down to the shops and grab some milk in it. It is not allowed to be driven on public roads...
