Character encouraged by Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam toy sales

Character said sales of its Peppa Pig, Minecraft, Fireman Sam, Teksta, Little Live Pets, and Scooby Doo lines have all been encouraging.

Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam helped toymaker Character Group (LON:CCT) have a “solid” Christmas period.

Character said sales of its Peppa Pig, Minecraft, Fireman Sam, Teksta, Little Live Pets, and Scooby Doo lines have all been encouraging.

It added that there will be new lines brought to market in 2016, including toys based on the Teletubbies franchise.

Sales in the year so far are up around 6% higher than at the same period last year, and, as a result, the firm said it expects to achieve market hopes.

There has also been a board reshuffle at the firm as executive chairman Richard King announced he will step down from his executive role from February 1, though he will remain non-executive chairman.

Kiran Shah, the finance director, and Jon Diver, marketing director, will continue in their other roles as joint managing directors, but will leave their positions.

Mark Dowding, chief financial officer, will become finance director, and Jerry Healy, the marketing director of the subsidiary Character Options, will become marketing director of the group.

Share climbed 5% to 505p in early trading.
