AIM quoted video games firm Frontier Developments (LON:FDEV) says its self-published Elite Dangerous franchise continues to perform well.
Some 1.4mln of the franchise’s paid units had been sold by the end of December 2015, it told investors.
Frontier Developments said that revenues amounted to £10.9mln for the six months to the end of November, up 50% on the comparative period for prior year, and at that point 1.2mln units had been sold.
It expects to report earnings of £2.1mln for the period.
The focus during the first half was the group’s transition to a self-publishing multi-franchise business model. The highlight was the release of the first Elite Dangerous title on the Xbox One, as well as the announcement of Frontier’s second self-published franchise, Planet Coaster, which is currently in development.
On December 15, the company launched the second season of Elite Dangerous: Horizons.
“The second season for Elite Dangerous was released as an Early Access product in mid-December,” said chief executive David Braben. “Existing players are starting to upgrade and new players can now choose between two price points, a premium direct access to season 2, or a lower price start on season 1."
Braben added: “Initial reactions to our second franchise, Planet Coaster have been very positive following its announcement in the summer and early development videos released to the public.”
The company also told investors that its balance sheet was strong, with £8.6mln of cash at November 30, and said it expects to report interim results in early February.
