ASOS sales accelerate as international business shines

AIM's largest company has picked up the pace somewhat since it last reported.

The online fashion retailer ASOS (LON:ASC) reported an acceleration in sales, which were boosted by a strong performance by the international business.

Total retail sales climbed 27% in the four months to December, a jump from the 17% growth posted in the year to August 31.

Within that EU revenues were up 40%, with the US ahead up 35%. Overseas operations account for 54% of the business.

ASOS did sacrifice around 0.4 percentage points in gross profit margin to achieve this stellar growth.

In a trading statement the largest company on the junior AIM market said it now has 10.7mln active users worldwide, up 18% on a year ago.

"We have traded well through peak and are continuing to invest in the future growth of the business,” said chief executive Nick Beighton. “We are on track with our plans for the year as a whole.”
