Hornby releases new toy list for 2016

Thunderbirds and Scalextric are among the old favourites with new twists being brought out this year

Toymaker Hornby (LON:HRN) announced its list of new products for 2016, including new items from many well-known international brands.

New additions to Scalextric, the popular car racing toy, include an app to allowing users to race up to six cars on two lanes, and time their laps, while new parts from slot.it give players the opportunity to upgrade their cars.

Meanwhile, speciality toymaker Corgi celebrates its 60th anniversary with the launch of new limited edition models and packaging for the year, including models from classic television show Thunderbirds.

The latest in toy innovation sees the company using the latest in 3D printing technology to launch a new line of products made from coloured filament.

“It offers an efficient, quick and easy way to produce a range of objects and models in minutes,” the company said.

Richard Ames, chief executive, said: “Hornby is developing a really interesting range of new concepts for the next generation of fans, while our core collector market continues to enjoy our well-loved brands.”

The firm is also launching new battery operated trains aimed at children between 5-8 years old, and expects its popular Airfix brand, which allows customers to build to-scale model cars including the McLaren P1 and Bugatti Veyron, to continue to expand.

These products will be showcased at upcoming toy fairs around the world, including London, Hong Kong and Nuremberg, the company said.

Ames said: “We look forward to engaging with our customers, fans and followers at these events and letting them know what we are working on.
