TRENDING - KaloBios Pharmaceuticals sacks Martin Shkreli

The controversial hedge fund manager and bio executive was back in the spotlight as he was let go by KaloBios Pharmaceuticals.

Whilst not a market-mover KaloBios Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:KBIO) was very much in the headlines as it confirmed Martin Shkreli had been sacked after his arrest last week.

Shkreli sparked controversy earlier this year when his other former company Turing Pharmaceuticals massively increased the price of a drug for AIDS patients called Daraprim to US$750 a pill from US$13.50.

It quickly became a target of criticsm from politicians and public figures, such as Hilary Clinton, and latterly the scrutiny turned to his other business activities.

On Thursday, Shkreli was arrested by federal prosecutors in relation to securities and wire fraud.

Here are some of the day’s news-driven small cap stock movers

RISERS

AVEO Oncology (NASDAQ:AVEO), up 28% at US$1.32, unveiled a new drug licensing deal. An exclusive agreement with EUSA Pharma sees it receive US$2.5mln upfront, with up to US$394mln of future milestone payments possible.

NetSol Technologies (NASDAQ:NTWK), up 23% at US$7.90, landed a a new US$100mln contract which will see its software rolled out across a total of twelve markets.

FALLERS

CannaSys (OTCMKTS:MJTK), down 18% at 26 cents, confirmed the closure of its acquisition of cannabis dispensary business LuvBuds LLC.

Boulder Energy (TSE:BXO, OTCMKTS:BLLDF), down 8% at US$1.12, continues to be weighed down following Thursday’s financing news - that its credit facility would be clipped by 9% to US$160mln and its cautious outlook.
