As Wall Street shares faltered, billionaires including Bill Gates and Facebook (NYSE:FB.) founder Mark Zuckerberg were in focus on 'Cyber Monday' as they launch an initiative to promote investment in clean energy technology.
Zuckerberg unveiled the "Breakthrough Energy Coalition" unsurprisingly on his Facebook page Sunday evening, ahead of this week's key climate change conference in Paris.
Other high profile names, who have signed up to this include Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos, Virgin founder Richard Branson, and Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma.
President Barack Obama and French President Francois Hollande are government names involved- in all 19 governments around the world have signed up. The idea is to try and bring down the cost to produce clean energy.
And as if people weren't fed up with shopping after the excitement of last week, Cyber Monday today as it's known, is the Monday following Thanksgiving and is promoted by online retailers as a day for deep bargains.
It is ten years old today and it is expected that £1bn will be spent online, according to UK news outlets.
But it appears to have caused some technical glitches.
Target's (NYSE:TGT) website crashed due to high traffic. The online retailer's shares lost almost 1% in New York to US$72.72.
Also, according to social media, online payment specialist PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) was also down in the morning and shares were down a tad - 0.34%.
