Black Friday, petrol prices, drugs giant Pfizer and Rolls Royce (LON:RR.) were in focus in web world as the week kicked off.
It sounds rather ominous but Black Friday is all about bagging bargains and shopping - thought of as a tonic in many quarters.
Although a US import, it is gaining significant traction this side of the pond and hits the UK on November 27 - the day after US Thanksgiving.
It takes place online and on the High Street and is expected to hit the £1bn mark in Britain this year after around £810mln last year.
A load of retailers are getting in on the act - with Amazon and Argos to name two. Computer giant Microsoft is also in the news today, with a big list of deals, with most attention going to the fact that it will be cutting US$50 off all Xbox One bundles, setting the lowest price at $299.
Speaking of Argos, which is owned by Home Retail Group (LON: HOME) it was also gaining traction as the subject of bid rumours in the Sunday press.
A drop in crude prices could mean the return of a £1 a - litre petrol at garages was another trending topic. Today, a barrel of oil fell to $40.40 – the lowest price since February 2009.
But there were also fears that Chancellor George Osborne could user the crude price to hike tax on fuel in the autumn statement next week.
In big pharma news, which could not go unnoticed, the board of Viagra maker Pfizer approved a bid for Botox-maker Allergan worth a staggering $150bn (£100bn)m which if it went ahead would create the world's biggest drug-maker.
It comes after last year Pfizer made an offer to buy AstraZeneca, in a much publicised bid, which was rejected by the UK giant.
Troubled engineer Rolls Royce (LON:RR.) is also making headlines again, with news of a potentially big restructuring of the management after a difficult two years.
The firm, which has been labelled the worst corporate communicator on the FTSE 100, is reported to get rid of around 2,000 senior management roles
