88 energy, Horizonte Minerals and Horizon Discovery were all also in the news

The miners were in the news a lot today in the small cap space, as the week ended on a muted note.

Horizonte Minerals (LON:HZM; CVE:HZM) reported a strong cash position from which to finance ongoing feasibility work at its nickel project in Brazil.

The company recently agreed to acquire GAP, the deposit adjacent to its Araguaia development, from Glencore to give it control over the one of the world’s largest saprolite nickel projects.

Elsewhere in the sector, Savannah Resources (LON:SAV) started drilling for copper on a second of its blocks in Oman.

The diamond drilling programme will target high grade copper zones identified around the Mahab 4 deposit on the Block 5 permit.

Aureus Mining (LON:AUE) remains on track for commercial production at its New Liberty mine in Liberia in January.

The miner made its first dore sales in September having overcome the Ebola crisis to get New Liberty, Liberia’s first gold mine, up and running.

Sula Iron & Gold (LON:SULA) announced VSA Capital has assumed the role of sole broker to the company.

In oil news, 88 Energy (LON:88E) said its drilling operation in Alaska has been catching up lost time.

Following the replacement of faulty equipment - relating to the blow-out preventer (BOP) – which initially caused a three day delay, drilling resumed and the new piece of kit is now actually improving drilling capability.

South America-focused power group Rurelec (LON:RUR) is attempting to reboot its finances with an open offer to raise up to £3.5mln.

Meanwhile, in the wearables space, CloudTag (LON:CTAG) chief Amit Ben-Haim said he is “pleased” with the quality of the first batch of wearable health and fitness devices ahead of the product launch next year.

In other news, Cloudbuy (LON:CBUY) has done a deal to supply an online business-to-business marketplace to business chiefs in India.

The units are being used to test the system integration with the company's mobile application and the cloud.

To pharma, here Horizon Discovery (LON:HZD) noted that influential biotech and technology investor Neil Woodford gave further backing to the life sciences group.

Woodford Investment Management increased its holding to 11.6mln shares from 10.5mln, and now owns a 12.4% stake in the company.

Finally, in the tech arena, Minds + Machines (LON:MMX) highlighted what were described as strong renewals under the .london website domain.

It said that figures from Dot London, the domain’s owner, show that 75.4% of the 38,389 initially registered domains have renewed for another year.
