Novocure retreats in trading debut on Nasdaq

Novocure (NASDAQ:NVCR), a commercial-stage oncology company, tumbled in its trading debut on Friday

The shares were trading at $19.20, below their initial public offering price of $22 and valuing the company at about $1.67bn.

The company, which makes a device to treat a form of brain cancer, initially hoped to offer shares at $26 to $29 a piece but had cut that guidance to $23 to $24 amid growing pressure on biotech stocks.

Novocure sold 7.5mln shares and will net about $150.5mln, after deducting expenses.

Proceeds will be used for working capital and general corporate purposes, the company said in a statement.

J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank and Evercore Group were joint bookrunners on the deal, with Wells Fargo acting as lead manager.
