Chipotle Mexican to reopen all 43 restaurants in Seattle, Portland

The fast food chain says health officials found no evidence of E. coli bacteria at those outlets.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) advanced on Tuesday after the fast-food chain said it would reopen all 43 restaurants in Seattle and Portland after health officials found no evidence of E. coli bacteria at those outlets.

Shares rose 2.2% to $623.11 at 10:46 a.m. in New York, paring this year's loss to 8.9%.

The Denver, Colorado-based company closed the restaurants on October 31 after a reported outbreak of E. coli, which caused food poisoning among some people who had eaten at eight of its restaurants.

Health officials have concluded that there is no ongoing risk from the incident, Chipotle said in a statement on Tuesday.

Tests of thousands of produce samples turned up negative for the Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O26 bacteria tagged as the culprit.

The company said it would replace all ingredients at the closed restaurants and reopen the outlets in the "coming days".

Chipotle said it will test fresh produce, raw meat, and dairy items before restocking restaurants.
