Wendy's (NASDAQ:WEN) rose 5.3% to $9.93 after an expanded menu and refurbished restaurants helped the hamburger chain report better-than-expected same-restaurant sales for the third quarter.
Sodastream International (NASDAQ:SODA) wavered and was last up 1.9% at $16.07. The maker of beverage carbonation systems reported higher-than-expected profit, but a worse-than-expected sale drop in the third quarter.
Michael Kors Holdings (NYSE:KORS) rose 11% to $43.81 after the handbag and accessories maker posted better-than-expected fiscal second-quarter sales profit, and lifted its share buyback program.
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) jumped 10% to $229.14 even as the electric car maker reported worse-than-expected earnings and sales for the third quarter. Tesla, however, stuck to its sales-target goals for the year.
FALLERS
Groupon (NASDAQ:GRPN) sank 29% to $2.85. The company that once dominated the fast-growing online coupons arena reported a third-quarter loss and said it named a new chief executive
21st Century Fox (NASDAQ:FOXA) slid 4% to $30.04. The global media and entertainment company reported weaker-than-expected revenue for its September quarter, hurt by the timing of key film releases and a weak showing by “The Fantastic Four.”
Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) retreated 4.5% to $7.26 after swinging to a heavy loss in its third quarter as the U.S. shale driller took a big write-down on some of its oil and natural gas properties amid tumbling energy prices.
Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) decreased 7.4% to $71.55. The media and entertainment company posted profit and revenue that came in above Wall Street expectations, helped by growth in its Warner Bros. and Home Box Office businesses.
Allergan (NYSE:AGN) slid 0.9% to $306.59, reversing an earlier gain. The botox-maker said revenue in its latest quarter nearly doubled as demand for the company’s branded pharmaceuticals and medical aesthetics products soared.
