Chipotle falls as restaurants close amid e.coli outbreak

Chipotle shares were seen sharply lower in ahead of Monday’s open

--UPDATES SHARE PRICE--

Shares in Mexican restaurant group Chipotle (NYSE:CMG) dropped on Monday following news of an outbreak of e.coli.

It was reported that a total of 43 Chipotle restaurants across Oregon and Washington were closed as an investigation was launched.

Press reports claimed that seventeen of nineteen people suffering e.coli infection had eaten at Chipotle in recent weeks. Eight people had been hospitalised thus far, though there have been no deaths.

The company said the vast majority of its outlets in the two areas had no reported problems.

Chipotle’s usually popular shares fell US$15.23, 2.4%, to trade at US$625.31 on Monday.
