Proactive news highlights: Goldplat, Seeing Machines, Acal, Arian Silver, Utilitywise, Mirada...

Fastjet, Ortac Resourves and Genel Energy also had news out...

Gold recovery specialist Goldplat (LON:GDP) moved back into profit in its latest quarter as production recovered.

The company, which recovers gold from mining by-products, posted operating profits of £571,000 from its recovery businesses, though the Kilimpesa mine posted another loss.

It wasn’t the only company reporting, as Seeing Machines (LON:SEE) chairman Terry Winters hailed record sales of the group’s driver safety device, despite a significant downturn in the mining industry, a key market for the product.

Winters, at the company’s AGM earlier today in Canberra, Australia, said there was strong demand for the system which monitors drivers for fatigue.

Elsewhere, there were a lot of board room hirings today. Electronic components distributor Acal (LON:ACL) strengthened its board with two new directors - Tracey Graham and Malcolm Diamond - who will take up the roles from November 1.

Gold miner Petropavlovsk (LON:POG) said Sir Roderic Lyne has been appointed as a senior independent non-executive director effective from November 1 this year.

E-Therapeutics (LON:ETX) hired a pharma and biotech veteran to bolster its focus on commericialising its most promising compounds.

South America focused President Energy (LON:PPC) said Robert (Rob) James Shepherd is to join the board as an independent non-executive director with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Egypt-focused explorer Alexander Nubia (CVE:AAN) has appointed mining industry specialist James Leahy to its advisory board.

In other mining-related news, Ortac Resources (LON:OTC) said it was pleased with the latest trenching samples from its Zambian associate Zamsort.

Samples from Kalaba, a small-scale mining licence in northwest Zambia, showed copper grades of between 1.73% and 2.1% with a cobalt element also present.

Improvements in processing meant Asian Mineral Resources (CVE:ASN) delivered production above guidance in its third quarter despite the commodity climate.

Elsewhere, shares in Mexico-focused miner Arian Silver (LON:AGQ, CVE:AGQ) have been suspended in London and halted in Toronto after a planned financing restructure hit the buffers.

To energy – where Berkeley Energy (LON:BKY) said it expects to publish the pre-feasibility study for its proposed uranium development in Salamanca, Spain in December.

Genel Energy (LON:GENL) has agreed to sell its partner in the Chia Surkh project, Petoil, a 20% stake in the Kurdistan based project.

88 Energy (LON:88E) ended the quarter to September with net cash reserves of A$9.3 million (around £4.3mln), it told investors today, as it updated on a busy period.

Meanwhile, energy consultant Utilitywise (LON:UTW), has signed up more than seventy clients in the last two months to its Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme compliance service.

In other news, Africa-focused airline fastjet (LON:FJET) completed its first flight in Zimbabwe, its second base in Africa.

The successful initial flight set-off from Harare and landed in Victoria Falls, before returning.

Finally, Mirada Plc (LON:MIRA) has raised £1.5mln through a share placing to support the company’s finances as it pushes ahead with the roll-out of its software platform under contract with a major customer.
