Ferrari gets off to racing start

Ferrari got off to a flying debut in New York......

Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) shares got off to a racing start when it debuted in New York on Wednesday.

Shares were priced at US$52 per share for the IPO but rose over 15% at the open to trade at US$60.

Excitement was high as one of the globe's best known carmarkers debuted its shares in New York.

Ferrari is a name known to all and its initial public offering on Tuesday saw the group raise US$893mln, which valued the group at an eye-watering US$10bn.

The price of the issue was at the top end of expectations after demand from investors was high.

The trading ticker symbol, will be one, not easy to forget - as RACE.

The group has been spun out of parent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which has sold 10% of its 90% stake in Ferrari.

The proceeds will go towards Fiat Chryslers' growth plans, which centre around a revamp of its Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Maserati brands.

Fiat Chrysler said in a regulatory filing that Ferrari was "among the world's leading luxury brands".

The Ferrari brand symbolises exclusivity, innovation, state-of-the-art sporting performance and Italian design. Its history and the image enjoyed by its cars are closely associated with its Formula 1 racing team, it said.
