Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) is hiring 100,000 seasonal workers -- 25% more than last year -- for its U.S. warehouses to get through its busiest quarter.
The Seattle, Washington-based company said in a statement on Tuesday that it will be hiring across the country for jobs in its fulfillment and sorting facilities.
Amazon’s rivals Walmart (NYSE:WMT), Target (NYSE:TGT), and Macy’s (NYSE:M) are all adding about the same amount of jobs as they did in 2014 — 60,000, 70,000, and 85,000 respectively. Kohl’s (NYSE:KSS) is hiring about 2,000 additional workers.
Others, including J.C. Penney (NYSE:JCP) and Toys R Us, are hiring fewer holiday workers.
Shares fell 2.4% to $559.36 at 11:59 a.m. in New York. The stock has rallied 80% this year.
Amazon.com. has more than 90,000 full-time employees at its more than 50 fulfillment centers and 20 sorting facilities in the U.S.
Analysts on average estimate Amazon to generate $35.1bn in fourth-quarter revenue, up 20% from a year earlier, according to data compiled by Capital IQ.
Amazon will report third-quarter results on Thursday.
