Defence technology group Cohort (LON:CHRT) has won a deal worth more than £3mln to provide electronic warfare operational support services.
Cohort said its MASS subsidiary had secured the contract, which starts immediately and will add to group revenue this year and beyond, from an unidentified export customer.
The company and its technology will help the client to protect its military aircraft in its local region.
Chief executive Andrew Thomis said the contract award highlighted the extent to which MASS's specialist skills were in demand from global customers.
"At the start of the year, we said we had a number of really good prospects and we've begun to convert them into orders," he told Proactive Investors in an interview.
Cohort bought specialist defence and technology business MASS, which focuses mainly on electronic warfare, information systems and cyber security, in August 2006.
Meanwhile, Cohort said authorities in Portugal had asked it to extend a deadline for acquiring Portuguese advanced defence electronics supplier EID, announced in August.
The extension was necessary due to resource issues in the department reviewing the deal, it said.
Thomis said the extension was slightly longer than the company had expected but said that was understandable as it was a new jurisdiction for the firm.
The company was working with the Portuguese authorities and hoped to complete the deal by the middle of December, he said.
Thomis said the EID deal will take the company into new markets in Europe, South America and Africa.
"These export markets bring new relationships which are really important," he said.
Berkshire-based Cohort entered AIM in March 2006 and employs a total of about 650 staff at several UK sites.
Cohort's shares rose 18p to 395p in mid-afternoon London trading.
