Instead of a voucher, customers will now get an immediate price reduction if the product was cheaper at any of its big four rivals.

Newsflow out of miner/trader Glencore (LON:GLEN) is such at the moment it almost qualifies for its own section.

Today, it was plans to sell copper mines in Australia and Chile that set the social networks buzzing again.

Glencore said the decision to put the mines on the market was due to "a number of unsolicited expressions of interest for these mines from various potential buyers".

The potential sales will form part of the company's attempt to offload assets in order to reduce its $30bn (£19.8bn) burden of debt.

Liberum Capital said it believed the two mines, Cobar and Lomas Bayas, could raise $750mln and would further help reduce its US$30bn debt burden.

The proceeds would be in addition to $2bn expected to come from the sale of a minority stake in its agricultural businessand recent streaming deals.

Last week, Glencore sparked the fastest rise in zinc prices for years when it announced it would cut production by a third.

Britian’s engineering heritage got a boost when two companies with a combined age of 350 joined forces as boiler pump maker Hayward Tyler (LON:HAYT) acquired Peter Brotherhood.

The fact that the deal was valued at US$14mln speaks volumes about the decline or Britain’s industrial base in the meantime, but Ewan Lloyd-Baker, Hayward’s chief, believes there is still plenty of mileage left.

“The plan now, he said, is to bring the brand back to the forefront, and to get back to building on the heritage the brand brings.

“Great British brands, particularly from an engine perspective have got a kudos for reliability and quality around the world and often we in the UK undervalue our engineering heritage and what it means to our customers in overseas countries.”

Elsewhere, insurance firm Hastings Direct (LON HSTG) made a sluggish start to its stockmarket life with shares dipping below its 170p IPO price.

In the US, computer giant Dell is tipped to snap up data storage group EMC for more than US$53bn.

It would be biggest deal in tech history if ti goes through and the second large buyout by founder Michael Dell in about two years.

Finally, internet domain names specialist Minds + Machines (LON:MXX) expressed itself delighted with the launch of .Miami.

Some 8,000 web sites were registered onto the .Miami domain in the first seven days following the launch, the AIM quoted web domain firm said.

The success follows a co-ordinated marketing campaign with GoDaddy and HelloDotMiami, which is specialised for Spanish language registrations.
