U.S. Risers/Fallers: Alcoa, Ruby Tuesday, Gap, Helen of Troy, UTi, Ascena Retail

Below are the main news driven share price changes at 10:39 a.m. in New York on Friday:

RISERS

Helen of Troy (NASDAQ:HELE) rose 7.1% to $101.45 after the maker of Hot Tools hair stylers and Brut aftershave reported stronger-than-projected second-quarter results and raised the low end of its financial projections for the year.

UTi Worldwide (NASDAQ:UTIW) surged 47% to $6.97 after the U.S. logistics company agreed to be acquired by Danish logistics group DSV for $1.35bn.

FALLERS

Alcoa (NYSE:AA) decreased 5.3% to $10.43. The world’s largest producer of aluminum reported adjusted quarterly profit of $0.07 per share, missing estimates by $0.06. Revenue was also below forecasts due to lower aluminum prices.

Ruby Tuesday (NYSE:RT) skidded 13% to $5.72 after the restaurant operator swung to an unexpected fiscal first-quarter loss.

Gap (NYSE:GPS) tumbled 8.1% to $26.60 after the apparel retail company provided disappointing guidance on its expected profitability in the current quarter while reporting a 1% drop in total sales in September.

Ascena Retail Group (NASDAQ:ASNA) fell 5.7% to $13.39, reversing an earlier loss. Golden Gate Capital, a private-equity firm, unveiled it has a 9% stake in the clothing retailer which owns Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, Dressbarn and other brands.
