Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) advanced 4.3% to $28.28 after the tech pioneer said it expected to cut another 25,000 to 30,000 jobs over three years.
Starz (NASDAQ:STRZA) rose 5% to $40.73 after Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, reported cable network operator AMC Networks (NASDAQ:AMCX) is in early talks to buy billionaire John Malone's premium TV cable network.
ADRs of Syngenta AG (NYSE:SYT), which turned down a $4bn bid from Monsanto (NYSE:MON), gained 1.2% to $70.27 after saying it’s speeding up the pace of innovation and has a pipeline of new technology with combined sales potential of more than $6bn.
Anheuser Busch Inbev (NYSE:BUD) surged 8.1% to $116.80 after the Budweiser owner launched a bid for SABMiller (OTCMKTS:SBMRY).
Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) (TSE:SH) rose 1.5% to $28.53 after the cloud-based, multichannel commerce platform unveiled partnership with Facebook (NASDAQ:FB).
FALLERS
FedEx (NYSE:FDX) fell 4.5% to $147.05 after the operator of the world’s largest cargo airline lowered its earnings forecast for its fiscal year on softer demand in its freight segment and higher insurance costs.
Dentsply International (NASDAQ:XRAY) fell 2.6% to $52.95 after the dental supply maker agreed to acquire peer Sirona Dental Systems (NASDAQ:SIRO) in a $5.56bn all-stock deal.
