ADRs of JD.com (NASDAQ:JD) advanced 6.1% to $24.23 after China's largest online direct sales company unveiled a plan to buy back up to $1bn of its American depositary shares in the next 24 months.
SunEdison (NYSE:SUNE) jumped 5.9% to $12.70 after the provider of photovoltaic energy agreed to acquire a 33% interest in a portfolio of solar assets from Dominion Resources (NYSE:D) for roughly $300mln.
Noble Energy (NYSE:NBL) rose 1.7% to $31.25 after the oil and natural gas exploration and production company boosted its third-quarter sales volume outlook, following a stronger-than-expected performance in July and August.
Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) jumped 3.1% to $514.29 after Dow Jones, citing sources, reported the e-commerce giant plans to sell a $50 tablet with a 6-inch screen in time for the holidays.
FALLERS
Media General (NYSE:MEG) fell 4% to $10.70 after it agreed to buy Meredith (NYSE:MDP) for about $2.4bn in a cash and stock deal. The purchase will create the third-largest local television station owner in the United States.
Concordia Healthcare (NASDAQ:CXRX) fell 8.1% to 77.34 as the Canadian firm announced it will acquire rare disease drug maker Amdipharm Mercury for about $3.5 billion.
Five Below (NASDAQ:FIVE) wavered around $34.12. The teen discount retailer had rallied to $34.88 after saying it will open its largest American store in its hometown of Philadelphia on Thursday.
