RISERS
Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) rose 0.4% to $156.82. The biotech giant won U.S. approval for its pricey cholesterol-lowering drug Repatha for certain patients, making it the second in a new class of treatments to come to market.
Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE:FCX) jumped 7.8% to $10.97. Activist investor Carl Icahn disclosed a 8.5% stake in the beleaguered mining company.
Big Lots (NYSE:BIG) rose 14% to $47.98. The deep discounter said second-quarter adjusted profit rose in the latest quarter and posted another same-store sales increase amid merchandising improvements.
Smith & Wesson Holding (NASDAQ:SWHC) rose 9.4% to $17.74. The firearms maker said earnings for the July quarter were better than it expected. It also increased its revenue and earnings guidance for the year ending in April 2016.
FALLERS
Autodesk (NASDAQ:ADSK) fell 5.2% to $47.41 after the maker of computer-aided design (CAD) software swung to a second-quarter loss and cut its full-year outlook as it continues to shift to a subscription-based model.
GameStop (NYSE:GME) declined 6.7% to $43.07. The videogame retailer said its earnings rose 2.8% on efforts to expand its product lines helped buoy sales but raised costs for the quarter ended in August.
Splunk (NASDAQ:SPLK) slid 5.9% to $60.38, erasing an earlier gain. The data software company reported adjusted quarterly profit of $0.03 per share, $0.01 above estimates. Sales were up 46%. Revenue and current quarter guidance was also above forecasts.
