U.S. Risers/Fallers: Goldman Sachs, GE, Nordstrom, JC Penney, El Pollo Loco, King Digital, Applied Materials

Below are the main news driven share price changes at 2:30 p.m. in New York on Friday:

RISERS

Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) rose 0.5% to $201.75. The largest U.S. investment bank’s unit Goldman Sachs Bank USA agreed to buy General Electric (NYSE:GE) financial services arm GE Capital’s online deposit platform, which includes $16bn in deposits. GE gained 1% to $25.79.

Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) advanced 3.9% to $77.83 after the largest U.S. luxury department-store chain forecast fiscal full-year earnings above Wall Street’s projections, aided by growing sales.

J.C. Penney (NYSE:JCP) jumped 4.9% to $8.47. The Plano, Texas-based retailer lost $0.41 per share for the second quarter, but that was narrower than the $0.48 Wall Street was expecting.

DuPont (NYSE:DD) gained 1.4% to $53.79 after getting upgraded to overweight from neutral at JPMorgan.

FALLERS

El Pollo Loco (NASDAQ:LOCO) sank 18.6% to $14.95. The restaurant operator cut its sales growth outlook for the year as revenue rose less than estimated in the April-to-June quarter.

King Digital (NYSE:KING) dipped 10.8% to $13.58. The online game maker said second-quarter gross bookings fell 13% and forecast a further drop in the current quarter.

Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) retreated 3.3% to $16.48. The semiconductor equipment maker gave weaker than expected guidance for the current quarter.

Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) advanced 6.3% to $79.61 after the largest U.S. luxury department-store chain forecast fiscal full-year earnings above Wall Street’s projections, aided by growing sales.

J.C. Penney (NYSE:JCP) jumped 8.1% to $8.72. The Plano, Texas-based retailer lost $0.41 per share for the second quarter, but that was narrower than the $0.48 Wall Street was expecting.

El Pollo Loco (NASDAQ:LOCO) sank 18.2% to $15.02. The restaurant operator cut its sales growth outlook for the year as revenue rose less than estimated in the April-to-June quarter.
