ADRs of JA Solar Holdings (NASDAQ:JASO) advanced 0.6 percent to $7.89. The Chinese solar cell and module maker reported that earnings nearly quadrupled in its latest quarter, buoyed by strong demand in the world’s second-largest economy.
Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX) leaped 24.3 percent to $13.98. A Novavax vaccine was shown in a mid-stage study to be effective against a respiratory virus known as RSV.

Kraft Heinz Co (NASDAQ:KHC) fluctuated and was last down 1 percent at $78.00. The packaged food company formed last month by the merger of ketchup maker H.J. Heinz Co and Kraft Foods Group Inc said sales fell 4.9 percent at Kraft and 4.1 percent at ketchup maker Heinz in the last quarter before the merger was completed.
Symantec (NASDAQ:SYMC) declined 5.5 percent to $21.75. The Norton antivirus maker, said it would sell its data storage business, Veritas, for $8 billion in cash to a group including Carlyle Group LP (NASDAQ:CG) and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC.
Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ:ZBRA) sank 21 percent to $87.12. The provider of enterprise asset intelligence products issued an earnings outlook for the current quarter that fell short of analysts’ expectations.
Rackspace (NYSE:RAX) fell 12.7 percent to $27.69. The web hosting company's revenue fell slightly below forecasts, hurt by tough price competition in the web hosting space, particularly from Amazon.com.
Shake Shack (NYSE:SHAK) skidded 2.6 percent to $68.82, erasing an earlier gain. The restaurant chain reported higher-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue. It also raised its full-year guidance.
