U.S. stock-index futures advance on strong earnings from Morgan Stanley, Halliburton

U.S. stock-index futures rose slightly Monday, boosted by better-than-expected earnings from Morgan Stanley and Halliburton Co.

Investor sentiment was also buoyed by progress in the Greek debt crisis. Greek banks reopened their branches across the country after a three-week shutdown.

S&P 500 futures were last up 0.1 percent to 2,120.75, while those for the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1 percent to 18,020. Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.2 percent to 4,658.25.

The Nasdaq Composite Index ended at a record on Friday, its second in a row, gaining 0.9 percent to 5,210.14. The S&P 500 added 0.1 percent to 2,126.64, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2 percent to 18,086.45.

Investors will also watch economic reports for clues on when the Federal Reserve will move on rates, with housing and jobless-claims data due later this week.

MOVERS:

Zillow Group (NASDAQ:Z) declined 2.4 percent after Barclays Plc cut its rating on the real estate listings website to underweight, similar to sell.

Newmont Mining (NYSE:NEM) slid 4.4 percent after gold led a slump in commodities prices.

Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) rose 1.3 percent after the owner of the world's largest brokerage bank reported stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings before the opening bell.

Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) added 2.1 percent following quarterly results that beat Wall Street’s forecasts.

Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS) advanced 2.2 percent in premarket trade after the toy giant delivered quarterly profit and revenue that topped expectations.

PayPal Holdings was up 4.2 percent to $40 on a "when-issued" basis premarket ahead of its trading debut after it split from e-commerce company eBay

COMMODITIES:

Gold prices plunged as much as 4 percent to their lowest in more than five years as sellers in top consumer China offloaded the metal.

U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate for delivery in August shed 17 cents to $50.72 a barrel compared with Friday's close.

OTHER MARKETS:

The pan-European Stoxx 600 was trading around 0.4 percent higher by mid-morning. Britain's FTSE 100 was up around 0.3 percent higher, the French CAC saw a 0.7 percent pop while the German DAX was trading over 0.6 percent higher.
