Nasdaq stock futures rose on Friday after strong results from Google and after data showed new-home construction climbed in June to the second-highest level since November 2007.

Nasdaq-100 futures showed the most spark, rising 0.5 percent to 4,619.25. S&P 500 futures were a point higher at 2,118.50, while those for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were off by 12 points at 18,008.

The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.3 percent yesterday. The S&P 500 closed 0.3 percent below its record and is on course for its biggest weekly gain in four months, up 2.3 percent.

DATA:

Home builders ramped up construction in June and laid the groundwork for an even busier fall. Housing starts rose 9.8 percent in June to a 1.17 million annualized rate from an upwardly revised 1.07 million in May. Building permits for single and multifamily properties, a gauge of future construction, climbed to an almost eight-year high.

Another report showed the cost of living rose in June for the fifth consecutive month, paced by increases in rents that are helping nudge inflation toward the Federal Reserve’s goal. The consumer-price index climbed 0.3 percent after rising 0.4 percent in May, a Labor Department report showed, equaling the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

The University of Michigan's preliminary July reading on the overall index on consumer sentiment is expected to stay unchanged at 96.1. The data is due at 10 a.m.
