Wall Street set to open higher as Greek concerns abate; Citi, Philip Morris rise

U.S. stock-index futures advanced as investors assessed earnings and welcomed Greek parliamentary approval of a bailout plan.

Futures on the S&P 500 index rose 0.4 percent to 2113. E-mini Dow futures gained 0.4 percent to 18056. E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures rose 0.5 percent to 4557.

The European Central Bank will meet later in the day and are expected to ease its funding squeeze on shuttered Greek banks.

Fed Chair Janet Yellen said yesterday that rates will be raised this year, but did not give clues about the timing or pace of a hike. She continues her congressional testimony on Thursday.

Yesterday, stocks slipped to snap four straight sessions of gains. The S&P 500 is up 2.2 percent so far in July, rebounding after a lackluster first quarter as optimism grows over Greece’s future.

OTHER MARKETS:

Stocks in Europe also jumped on the news that Athens approved steep spending cuts and tax increases, the next step toward obtaining further aid and keeping Greece in the eurozone. Germany’s DAX gained 1.6 percent, while France’s CAC 40 advanced 1.6 percent.

MOVERS:

Citigroup (NYSE:C) advanced 2.5 percent after delivering quarterly earnings that topped analysts' expectations, its highest quarterly profit in eight years.

Philip Morris International (NYSE:PM) added 2.3 percent after the world’s largest publicly traded tobacco company posted quarterly profit that topped estimates.

Radius Health (NASDAQ:RDUS) rose 2.2 percent after the science-driven biopharmaceutical company said an early study showed its drug was effective in shrinking tumors.

Garmin (NASDAQ:GRMN) plunged 11 percent after the world's largest maker of car-navigation devices trimmed its full-year earnings forecast.

Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) surged 12 percent after the online video streaming company posted better-than-expected earnings and said it added more subscribers than expected in the second quarter.

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) rose 2.7 percent a day after it reported better-than-expected quarterly results.

Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE:GS) fell 0.7 percent after saying earnings fell on higher legal costs.

eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) rose 3.6 percent after saying it is selling its enterprise business to a consortium led by private equity firm Permira for $925 million.

COMMODITIES:

Spot gold fell 0.4 percent to $1,144.35 an ounce, while U.S. gold futures for August delivery were down $3.90 an ounce at $1,143.50.

Brent crude for August was up 73 cents at $57.78 a barrel. U.S. light crude, also known as West Texas Intermediate or WTI, was up 42 cents at $51.83.
