Wall Street poised to snap three-day losing run as rising oil prices buoy energy shares

U.S. stock futures gained today, a day after the S&P 500 snapped a three-day losing streak, as rising oil prices lifted shares of energy companies. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3 percent to 17,814, while those for t

U.S. stock futures gained today, a day after the S&P 500 snapped a three-day losing streak, as rising oil prices lifted shares of energy companies.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3 percent to 17,814, while those for the S&P 500 index picked up 0.3 percent to 2,086. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index climbed 0.3 percent to 4,446.

Stocks ended little changed yesterday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipping 0.01 percent to 17,764. The S&P 500 added 0.04 percent to 2,080, while the Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 0.15 percent to 5,013.

DATA:

The quarterly-services survey and employer costs for compensation figures, both for the first quarter, are due out at 10 a.m.

MOVERS:

Oxford Industries (NYSE:OXM) climbed 7.4 percent in thin premarket trade after the clothing retailer late yesterday reported earnings that topped analyst estimates.

Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) added 0.8 percent. The online-streaming services’s shares yesterday reached a 52-week high of $649, on bets the company may announce a stock split soon.

HCC Insurance Holdings (NYSE:HCC) soared 36 percent in premarket trading after Tokio Marine Holdings said it had agreed to buy U.S. specialty insurer for $7.5 billion.

COMMODITIES:

Gold futures rose 0.8% to $1186.50 an ounce.

Brent crude prices rose $1.48 to a two-week high of $66.36 a barrel and was trading around $66.08, up $1.20 cents. U.S. light crude was up $1.36 at $61.50.

OTHER MARKETS:

German 10-year bund yields broke above 1 percent for the first time since September 2014, amid a wider selloff in the European and U.S. bond markets.

The U.S. dollar index hit a three-week low.

European stock markets fluctuated between gains and losses as investors continued to monitor developments in Greece’s attempt to break a negotiation deadlock with international lenders.

Stock markets in Asia closed mixed.
