Tupperware Brands rues FX effect on strong trading

Tupperware Brands (NYSE:TUP), the maker of the eponymous household products, said third quarter sales have been towards the end of its guidance range.

Two months into the quarter the company said that, leaving aside currency fluctuations, it is tracking towards the high-end of the sales guidance it issued in July.

The company said it has seen the expected trend improvement in Indonesia, France and Italy plus strong growth in Argentina, Brazil, China, Mexico and South Africa, but the strength of the dollar is likely to weigh on results.

The company said it estimates unhelpful exchange rate movements will put a 26 cents a share dent in earnings per share versus the same period last year, up from the 22 cent hit the company had been expecting back in July.

Shares in Tupperware were up 5% at US$51.52 in mid-morning trading.
