There was a mixed bag attracting interest in web world today...

What would you prefer in your pocket? An iPhone5 or a 1 kilo gold bar......or both?

The Telegraph today writes that the newly offered bars on sale from the Royal Mint are about the same size as the ubiquitous handsets - but at around £25,000, significantly more expensive.

A year after the Mint started offering direct gold sales to investors, it has unveiled the new Kilo Gold Cast Bar, which can be delivered to your home or stored in the Royal Mint's own Welsh vaults - for a fee.

It was one of an eclectic mix of stories getting clicks on the web, along with more on VW, headphones at the Rugby World Cup, Argos and Tesco (LON:TSCO).

On a day, where UK supermarket supertanker Tesco reported first half operating profits dropped by more than half, another retailer, Argos, owner by Home Retail Group (LON:HOME), advanced further its e-commerce offering, launching a same-day delivery service in the UK, seven days a week - the first retailer to do so, it claimed.

Customers must order by 6pm to ensure delivery on the same day, it was reported.

Argos said Fast Track was possible thanks to logistics improvements it had made over the last two years.

Also gaining traction was naturally enough news that brewing titan SABMiller (LON:SAB) had rejected a takeover proposal tabled by rival Anheuser-Busch InBev, which valued the company at £68bn on a cash basis, saying it undervalued the firm.

There was also more controversy over England's demise in the rugby world cup - but over headphones of all things. Players were reportedly told they could only wear headphones made by one of the RFU’s sponsors, Samsung, when travelling to games, which caused frustrations.

It comes as captain of the side Chris Robson took part in a high-profile campaign for Beats by Dr Dre - Beats is a unit of tech giant Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).

To motoring news now, and yes I do mean Volkswagen.

The latest is that the car giant could start recalling cars, affected with the emission test software at the centre of the current storm, as early as January next year, and fix them by the end of 2016.

New chief Matthias Mueller told the main Frankfurt paper that it would take a year to fix all 11 million diesel vehicles in the world affected.

Widely covered AIM miner Gemfields (LON:GEM), whose brand ambassador is Hollywood starlet Mila Kunis, saw shares ease 4% today as it hit another revenue record despite a difficult time for its luxury arm Faberge.

Sales in the year to June rose 7% to US$171mln, with underlying profits [EBITDA] 9% better at US$64.4mln. Pre-tax profits fell 28% to US$26.3mln.

Also in the business section today, was news that to many workers may not be news at all.

New research from a Texas university has shown that having an inflated view of your own ability and intelligence gives your career a boost.

The study, which admittedly was based on students, found that the more arrogant the student, the better they performed. However, the downside was they were not as popular with their colleagues.

Common character traits were extroversion, attention-seeking and dominance. The so-called humble, meanwhile, were viewed by their peers as competent, agreeable and open to criticism
