Ford Motor Company's sales kick on in September

It is looking like September might have been a good month for US car sales, with Ford echoing Fiat Chrysler in posting strong growth.

Ford's (NYSE:F) sales in its home market shot up 23% from September 2014, with the company boasting of its best retail result since 2004.

F-Series retail sales were up 26% year-on-year (yoy), pushing total truck sales to levels not seen since 2006.

In all, the company sold 221,599 vehicles in September, compared to 168,522 units sold in September of last year.

The 2015 September performance was the best showing in the ninth month of the calendar year in 11 years.

Earlier, Fiat Chrysler saw its sales grow yoy for the 66th month in succession, with the company shifting 193,019 vehicles, up 13.6% from the year before.

Meanwhile, the market waits to see what effect, if any, the diesel engine emissions scandal had on the sales of German car maker Volkswagen.
