Best Buy to start selling Apple Watch on August 7

The Apple Watch will be available at stores of Best Buy (NYSE:BBY), the largest U.S. consumer electronics chain, starting August 7.

The Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport models will be sold at more than 300 Best Buy stores in time for the holiday shopping season, a spokeswoman for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) said.

"Customers love Apple Watch, and we are thrilled to begin offering it at Best Buy," she said in an email.

Best Buy is the first retailer to sell the watch outside of the Apple retail store.

"The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it," Jason Bonfig, senior category officer, said on the Best Buy website.

The company said the product will also be available on its online store BestBuy.com.

Best But did not specify which Apple Watch models it will sell, but says that customers will be able to try-on and buy 16 of the variants, including Sport and Watch models in both 38mm and 42mm sizes. The retailer will not sell the Edition model.

In addition to Apple Watch itself, Best Buy will offer “nearly 50 accessories,” including bands, screen protectors, stands, and chargers. It’s unclear what bands will be available or if they will be Apple-made or aftermarket.

Sales of the Apple Watch have been a much-sought after a number among investors, and the company has refused to make available specific details of how well (or poorly) the Apple Watch has been doing. In the recent third-quarter earnings call, revenues from the Watch were bundled into an “Other” category.

Shares of Best Buy were down 0.4 percent at $32.33 at 10:34 a.m. in New York. Shares of Apple dropped 0.9 percent at $123.39.
