Viking Ashanti looks to take resource base in Ghana to over 1M ounces of gold

Viking Ashanti (ASX:VKA) has identified prospective gold targets at its Akoase project in Ghana following interpretation of geological and drilling data that could catapult the resource base of the project to over 1 million ounces.

Within its mineral licences, the regionally extensive north-east striking Kadewaso structural trend appears close to the eastern margin of the Ashanti Gold Belt.

This is a major influence on the location of gold deposits.

Viking Ashanti's Managing Director Peter McMickan said, "We believe we are now seeing the scale and shape of the Akoase project emerging. The potential to find additional mineralization to take the project beyond 1 million ounces looks clear."

Viking Ashanti has drill tested 6 kilometres of the 11 kilometres long Kadewaso trend that is host to 700,000 ounce Akoase East resource. The remaining 5 kilometres needs more evaluation.

However, Viking believes that based on positive early results on broad spaced shallow drilling at Andy Hills and Dave Flats prospects supports the probability of additional resources being defined.

Two drilling campaigns at the Alimac prospect also successfully extended the Akoase East deposit for a further 700 metres immediately north east of the current gold resource.

Viking hopes to register a significant increase in the Akoase East resource with additional infill drilling.

It has also identified four structural trends parallel to Kadewaso and along and adjacent to these trends, six geochemical targets have been identified, that hold the potential of being Akoase East look-alikes.
