Life sciences group OptiBiotix Health (LON:OPTI) has started pilot manufacturing studies after completing human testing of its cholesterol reducing capsules.
The aim of the human study was to confirm safety requirements and to analyse the full potential of the cholesterol lowering product.
Optibiotix has an option agreement in place with an unnamed multinational company that gives the corporation the first look at the results and the option to take the product on further.
Stephen O'Hara, chief executive, said the testing and early data analysis has been completed and shared with the multinational consumer goods partner.
The product is now undergoing pilot scale manufacturing studies.
“This will allow us to progress both the supply and longer term commercial aspects in parallel,” O’Hara added.
No further details on the agreement or the human studies were disclosed, but the capsule supplement, in laboratory testing, showed a reduction in cholesterol of between 71% and 82%.
Unlike other products on the market, including low fat butter spread Benecol, which blocks cholesterol that has been ingested, Optibiotix says this new supplement can also reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by the body.
